Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Columbus knew by the age of 3 that he wanted to be an entertainer. Columbus can remember putting on numerous shows for his family’s enjoyment. If it was imitating his family members, doing an impersonation, dancing or just making people laugh, everyone knew Columbus was going to be something special. By his early teens Columbus was involved with many different television commercial campaigns such as Mountain Dew, Denny’s Restaurant, NIKE and Pizza Hut, to name a few. Columbus got his first taste of being a leading man in his junior high school production of William Inge’s Bus Stop. On opening night, Columbus had no doubt that entertaining people would be his calling, as the stage felt like a second home to him. In high school, Columbus became very involved in theatre, and was cast as the lead in many of his school plays, while also maintaining a heavy commercial audition schedule.
Two months before graduating high school, Columbus was hit with an opportunity to travel with the famed dance troop, STOMP! Having been presented the opportunity of a lifetime Columbus graduated early and didn’t think twice about joining the troupe and traveling the world. After two years of touring with STOMP and going around the world twice, Columbus decided to pursue his passion and love for acting.
Columbus’s big break came earlier this year when he played the lead role of “DJ” in Sony Screen Gems hit motion picture, Stomp the Yard. The Sylvain White film grossed over $73.4 million dollars worldwide and hit a $25.9 million dollar mark opening weekend, domestically, making it the number #1 film at it’s debut and kept the title the following week. Columbus’ past motion pictures and TV credits include, Christopher B. Stokes, You Got Served, Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and David Petrarca’s, Save the Last Dance 2. In addition he has guest-starred on such TV shows as “ER,” “Judging Amy,” and recurred on the critically acclaimed “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.”
When Columbus is not working, he loves to play football and take part in the Nike basketball leagues around town. He loves the snow and considers himself an extreme snowboarder. He also has a love for music and feels that if he wasn’t acting he would want to be in the music industry by way of producing or writing for musicians and singers. Columbus plays the drums and the keyboards and loves spending quality time with his family.
Columbus currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
